Double Bloom Daffodils [Apr. 11th, 2009|03:59 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Photobucket

Every year since I've planted these bulbs they have bloomed and then immediately the next day flopped over. I got one good shot of these before they flopped, but now two are down. I guess they need something in front of them to keep them supported. Hmm. You can see more photos of daffodils in bloom (non-flopped) by clicking the photo link.

Happy Spring Equinox! [Mar. 19th, 2008|01:11 pm]
[Tags|, ]

And I've only just begun to post garden pictures for the year at my Photobucket. This one from February shows the tulips emerging.  They are in full bloom now, but it will take some time before I have those photos uploaded.

In my morning reading I came across the report that author Arthur C. Clarke has passed away. He wasn't someone whom I've read extensively, but his influence on thinking about the future has occupied the minds of many people. There has always been plenty of speculation, especially among the science fiction writing community, about his sexuality despite his own evasive denials, but according to this writer, the evidence supports the speculation.

July Flowers [Aug. 8th, 2006|04:38 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Again, all I have to offer is more photos of my garden. The dry weather has taken its toll and the aphids have taken their two-cents worth, but plants continue to grow and put on flowers. It is a joy to walk through and see what next has begun to bloom.

If you look carefully in the picture below you can see one of the many tiger-striped catepillars living on the Dusty Miller. I don't know what variety of butterfly they will become, but if I figure it out I will post it here. The most recent photos start on page 14 of the photobucket album.

Garden Pictures and I ♥ Huckabees [Jun. 27th, 2006|01:40 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

There seems to be a pattern developing with these posts... The garden has been blooming well and now seems to be in transition, as many plants are putting out buds. The hot weather has arrived and I've not been in much a mood for spending time in the garden. When I do go into the garden to work I find myself weeding mostly. Bruce has been doing a good job on the lawn which has been looking great this year.

We recently watched I ♥ Huckabees; Bruce didn't much care for it, but I found it both profoundly funny and silly at the same time. There's nothing quite so interesting and yet pointless as infinite navel gazing. It is interesting to note that the main character is played by the same actor who portrayed the young man in Rushmore. He has grown up a handsome fellow.

Napoleon Dynamite and garden pictures [May. 23rd, 2006|12:43 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Last night Bruce and I viewed Napoleon Dynamite from Netflix last night. I was wondering what all the hype was about when it came out a few years ago and as a film it pretty much delivers little more. But the characterizations are frighteningly accurate of my high school experience in Idaho, if a bit lacking the sort of cynical edge that might make the story more interesting. Hey, I actually identified with the main character, which perhaps shows how lacking the story really is, and how much in common I have with the filmmakers who grew up Mormon in a small Idaho town.

The garden, by the way, has been exploding in green growth and blooms after the week or so of dry, warm weather and now a warm front of moist air is bringing out the Iris so much more than the past two years. It helps that I've moved them to sunnier spots, but even the native yellow flag I was given two years ago is blooming in the same shady spot I planted it two years ago.

Unfortunately I've hit limits in my Photobucket account and am now deleting images to allow for new photos. Some of these images are no longer online.

I've posted more photos to my photobucket than I'm posting here so go there if this isn't enough to satify your desire for spring color:
